Must Have::: DHC Cleansing Oil

Photos: Me

One of my daily drivers, and a big part of my "beauty arsenal" that I wouldn't be without, is DHC Cleansing Oil. If you've been a long time reader, you may recall that it's something I have reviewed in the past

I have been using this product nightly for at least 4 years now, and prior to exclusively using the DHC oil, I alternated it with various Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils for at least 4 more years.  I have found that, comparatively, it has better ingredients, removes my makeup better, and leaves my face feeling overall cleaner than the Shu, which is why I stuck with it.  The DHC is simply a better product at a better value.  A great bonus: a couple times a year, DHC will have a sale on the Cleansing Oil, knocking about $5 off per bottle which is more incentive for me to stock up.  As if I needed any more incentive to stockpile something.

Way back when I first tried the DHC, a good 7-8 years ago easily, I bought the 2.3oz travel sized bottle, because it's a great starter size. I was convinced I would not love it as much as I loved the Shu Uemura, but I ended up being pretty pleased. And while I did waffle on which brand I loved for a while, in part due to the amazing deals I would find on the monster bottles of the Shu, I seemed to always go back to the DHC when those big bottles of Shu would run out.

I still have that original 2.3oz DHC bottle on the ledge by the shower, and now I buy the 6.7oz bottles and just refill that smaller one as needed.  The 6.7oz bottle will last me a good 6 months, easily, and I fill up my smaller bottle probably every other month or so.  I love that they now offer an even smaller size, perfect for about a week on the road, and I keep a few of those with my travel stuff, and I occasionally will select a few of the sample packets for when I will only be gone for a night or two, to save even more space in my travel bag.

Generally my routine for facial cleansing consists of::: 3 pumps of the DHC, slathered over my dry face and closed eyes. I work that around for about 30 seconds, and then start adding in water from the shower. Once that is rinsed, I go about my showering, washing and conditioning my hair, shaving, and after my hair and body are washed and rinsed, I wash my face one last time with La Mer Cleansing Gel, another long-time love of mine, sometimes using the alien laser deathray gun (Clarisonic Mia 2), to get any film of conditioner off of my skin and prep for my vitamin c, retinoids and moisturizer.

The primary ingredient in this product is actually olive oil, compared to mineral oil in the Shu. That was a primary selling feature for me. Olive oil is a more expensive and a richer ingredient to start with, not to mention more moisturizing to the skin and less likely to cause an eruption in the process. Since I switched to the DHC exclusively, I have noticed little to no breaking out caused by this product, something I couldn't really say about the Shu.

I have tried out others here and there when I get samples of them, most recently the Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil, and while a few have been nice as a random try out, not one has been enough to sway me from the DHC.

Has anyone else found a cleansing oil they love?  I'd love to hear about it in the comments below!

  2. Hi! Thanks for checking it out and the wonderful compliment!

    I hope you do try this product out, and please report back and let me know what you think. I recall when I first started with the Shu I was a little "meh" on cleansing oils but I gave them time and was then hooked. Nothing had every taken off my makeup quite the same, and nothing has since!

    Thank you for checking out the blog, have a fantastic day!
