Weekend Update ::: "What *IS* the Four?!"

Photo: Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Man, another week in June just flew right on by!

Among other delights in this week's mail, we received the 3rd (or 4th?) Discover card THIS YEAR (meaning since 2014 started). That's, like, the 9th Discover in less than 18 months. That is ridiculous.

Every single time it's because somewhere we've shopped, be it Target, or the local grocery store which had an epic hacking scandal last year, at some point within the timeline of the scandal and the card company felt it was safer to reissue.   And two weeks ago we got a letter from American Express about another vendor we shopped with being compromised as well. Crazy. I've spent the better part of this week correcting any auto-payment details.

Did you know that the US is, like, the only country that doesn't have RFID chips in their credit cards? I have friends that live all over the world and they're constantly shocked by the state of our credit card systems here.  Sure there's a whole world of shit that comes with those things, too, as well as a whole market to protect them, but they're still infinitely safer than the ridiculously unencrypted system we have now. You'd think the potential for my money being stolen while spending it might slow me down and make me hoard money more, versus what I am hoarding...

I am trying in vain to enact a "spending freeze" of sorts while waiting for pre-select to begin for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2014 on July 10, and then my annual "Girls Trip" that I am planning to make in July, if possible, which happens to occur during Anniversary and during which my friends will likely see some kind of insanity go down. Beyond the normal, anyway. I am already forming a list, and waiting for my catalog to arrive, which I expect any day now. And after that, I am freezing the cards again, literally freezing them. Seriously.

Speaking of "spending..." I have spent most of this week attempting to eat some variant of "paleo." That's not exactly cheap overall, but hopefully it will make a big difference in my weight and overall health, and hopefully I'll stop spending as much on the whole on food and needing as much food. Our dining out is at a ridiculous level, and our schedules have not been conducive to a lot of dinner cooking lately. I think I've managed to cook 2 nights a week, if that, for the last two months, and that's gotta stop. I preferred the Monday-Thursday cooking schedule we had going. I don't know how we let that get out of our hands with scheduling.

Doesn't that just make you drool? Mmmm Drewes....

I will admit that I think I am adjusting in terms of feeling fuller and not grazing as badly. Some days have gone fine this week, other days have been issues because I really wanted sugar or to graze. Like, a lot. Example:  I live by a few frozen custard stands, one is world famous. And I love getting just a simple twist cone or caramel sundae on my way home on a hot day (or a cold day, I don't discriminate when it's frozen custard). Those are decidedly not "allowed."  Yknow, being both sugar and dairy.  Hopefully if I can keep going it will get easier.  I did try tuna salad with avocado instead of mayo and mustard, plus my usual chopped celery and pickle relish. I failed a bit on the crackers, because I just can't not have crackers with tuna salad. And it was not awful. Since I don't do fish, that's quite a statement!

Until I adjust, and because I seem to do better when it's portioned and prepared for me, I've been looking into doing a meal service like Athlete Eats prepared meals, which I just set up my first order of versus just going in on the weekends and picking a few things up, or Green Bean Delivery, which brings you farm fresh produce and meat as well as other natural groceries. Ridding my house of temptation is going very poorly, since at present my husband is not participating. And he is eating all of these things that I am missing terribly.  And let's face it, I fail miserably at self-control. I feel like it's gotta be something I can learn, right?

If you don't watch Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" web series, you have to check it out! It's hilarious, and I really enjoy the banter.  Every episode is better than the last. The intro in this one had me rollin'.

This week's episode featured one of my favorite style icons, Sarah Jessica Parker. She's just phenomenal to me, so intelligent and so open, and the discussion about this amazing vehicle they rode in, which she owns, made my life. I have a suspicion a lot of people will relate to this. The line about the Kleenex box got me because we had a Caprice Classic station wagon, white with wood trim, when I was a little kid, and I kinda miss that thing sometimes. I remember getting in the "way back" on the way to school. Now when I see one I think "shaggin wagon!"

You can view the episode here, and if you wish to view any other episodes, check them out on the Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee website.

And, finally, I am BEYOND excited that my favorite phone pouch maker is soon to be back selling on Etsy. I have impatiently awaited her return for I think two years now, and am eager to put in an order with her as soon as she goes live again!  Her fabrics are super-high-quality and her construction is equally magnificent. I like to buy two fun pouches and alternate them, washing them every few weeks to keep the germs at bay.

She's probably going to FREAK that I just posted this on here, since she's just setting back up. But my excitement level is bordering on ridiculous.

Have a fantastic weekend!
