As a (failing) WW member, and a member of the Hungry Girl nation, I was super excited about the 3 new Laughing Cow flavors for Fall. Yesterday at Dierberg's I was able to get two of those three (the third is Blue Cheese which I am not interested in). The two I picked up are Queso Fresco and Chipotle and the Mozzarella, Sun-Dried Tomato and Basil. I typically stick to the Light Original and the Light Garlic and Herb flavors but I decided to be daring since I had a $1 coupon for each flavor. I should have stuck with the usual.

The flavor of the Mozz Tomato Basil is ...well...tastes like puke after a bowl of spagetti. I mean, that's really the closest approximation I can come up with. Not something I'll go back to. The flavor of the Queso Fresco is just...meh, and not exactly spicy meh. I was actually most excited about this one and so totally disappointed. It's good when you mix it into things, though. Like fajita veggies as a side, with a little of this, works fantastically. But on it's own with crackers does not work. I can see working this into recipes, but it's not a winner on it's own.
This makes me so sad. I have been searching for the new flavors (I can't believe you found them) and have been dying to try them. I really don't want to eat them on their own...I love cooking with them. I have read some great recipes using the spicy one (like in a pasta) and the blue cheese one (on a steak or chicken). Not sure if I should give it a go now :(

ReplyDeleteI was very disappointed. I think cooking with them could be useful. But I don't really fare well with cooking with them...
ReplyDeleteI got them at the Mackenzie dierbergs, they had LOTs of them in stock. The spicy one was ok, but the other one was SO gross.
